OPENetworks – first open access, wholesale only FTTH and FTTP network operatorAfter the grant of its carrier licence in 2007, OPENetworks became the first registered telecommunications FTTH and FTTP network carrier in Australia to service residential community developments. Delivering carrier regulatory and governance servicesOPENetworks is a licensed telecommunications carrier and has been established to specifically deliver their carrier management skills and wholesale carrier neutral open access model to connected communities and municipal network services which will in turn deliver the next generation of Broadband and Triple Play applications. The market desires a wholesale carrier regulator and network manager of advanced triple play and broadband networks who are totally "independent" of the retail services provided to end users. Our wholesale community network services are delivered using advanced fibre and wireless technology. This carrier is required to be a wholesale manager of the “first mile access network” and operate this on behalf of the community and foster competition in the delivery of retail voice and Internet services and new advanced applications. Through the provision of carrier licensing at the wholesale level service providers are able to utilise the network to deliver specialist vertical applications such as community portals or ASP applications or video on demand and IP TV services. The community members connected to an OPENetwork managed network will over time have a rich choice of services through several retail carriers and carriage, content, internet and other, service providers. Through the latest in first mile technologies fibre to the home and wireless communications users can expect to obtain access of speeds between 10Mps to 100Mbs and can be extended to 1Gbps for business and residential community members.
