 Home Cabling Options
Traditional styled homes required a copper cable for telephone and internet, plus an antenna for TV.Copper cable used to run from the street to the house and then run to outlets in the home to provide phone or internet service.
With FTTH, fibre is run from the street to the house, similar to the old copper. However the fibre (unlike copper) carries your TV/Pay TV, High Speed Broadband, Telephone and Security. (You only use what you want!) It is then sent into the house through a Cabinet similar to a power meter box called a CTC (Carrier Termination Cabinet) and is the interface between the fibre network and the home internal cabling.
This must be on the outside of the house and accessible at all times. This cabinet is supplied by the builder/cabling contractor during home construction and needs to have a home cabling termination plate and double power outlet.
When the house is cabled OPENetworks will have our field service technicians install a Optical Termination Unit (ONU) and Power Supply Unit (PSU) in the CTC. This will transfer the fibre optic signal into a signal that can be transmitted about the house via Cat5 or Cat6 copper cables and RG6 TV cable (Broadband/Telephone/TV/Security).
Please note to receive the Fibre connection to your home there is NO CHARGE from OPENetworks. (You will receive Free to Air TV similar to using an antenna. If you require Internet/Telephone/Pay TV or Security you will need to organise these services direct with the retail service providers) Please note however to use the signal you will need to equip your house with a few basic items, best done during construction of the home. The following brochures demonstate some of the various options that are available to you when cabling your home:
